We welcome new camp members and Burning Man virgins! MCC has a solid core of longtime members, but also embraces new members that continue our tradition of a long-lasting community. We take acculturation to Burning Man’s Ten Principles seriously, and we want to make sure all new Mission Country Club members are educated about our own Camp’s values and how we work as a group.
Mission Country Club has a relaxed and easygoing vibe. This freedom is enabled by relatively few structured obligations and responsibilities. We ask all camp members, new or old, to commit to the following agreements as part camping with MCC which relate to practical and cultural aspects of our camp.

MCC Member Agreements
Practice Radical Inclusivity = Zero Tolerance for homophobia, transphobia, racism, bigotry, & sexual harassment.
Mission Country club is a diverse camp with people of various backgrounds, races, nationalities, professions, sexual orientations, and gender presentations. All camp members need to be respectful of each other and embrace the diversity of the camp. This directly relates to the Principle of Radical Inclusivity and Burning Man’s stated goal of creating a more diverse and inclusive event.
Be Present, Participate, and Contribute to MCC
Mission Country Club is a community camp and we deeply value the Principles of Participation and Communal Effort. This means that we prioritize community building and the relationships among us over partying. Many of us have been friends for years and most of us became friends through Burning Man. While we love to party as well, we are NOT a crash pad for people who are solely interested in a rave.
Communicate, Communicate, Communicate
Advance planning and clear communication means we can relax and enjoy once we get out on the playa. This also goes for post-Burn responsibilities like individual expense reporting, dues payments, and submittal of photos. Camp Coordinator(s) strive to be transparent about decision-making that impacts everyone, and will be judicious with timing and volume of emails. So please don’t make us chase you down to get info we might be asking of you!
Help with Camp Setup and/or Breakdown.
All Mission Country Club camp members help with either Build and/or Breakdown of the camp on the playa. Camp Setup / Build is typically the Friday before Burn Week. Camp Breakdown is typically the Sunday at the end of Burn week.
Staff all the public events and parties we put on.
Mission Country Club is a registered Theme Camp, and our events and parties are a key part of our public offering that honor Principles of Gifting, Participation, and Communal Effort. Without contributing to Burning Man in this way, Mission Country Club would not be provided with placement by Burning Man. All MCCer’s are expected to help with planning, setup, operations, and cleanup of each events. We typically put on three events over the course of the week. Check the MCC website for specifics of parties offered each year.
Fetch Ice for Camp at least once during the week.
Ice is critical for our bar operations and public service at Flannagan’s Pub. A daily ice run from the local supplier, Arctica, is typically necessary to replenish our bar stock. We ask that all camp members to do at least one ice-run during the week, without being prompted or asked. Ice for the bar is accounted as a shared expense and will be reimbursed (any ice you need for your own cooler is on you, though). Teaming up in pairs and small groups for ice runs is the best way to go!
Maintain a Clean MOOP-Free Campsite
Each camp is monitored during and checked after the event every year by Burning Man. We are rated for how well we adhere to the Leave No Trace Principle. During the event, we ask all camp-members to constantly scan for, pick up, and dispose of any Matter-Out-Of-Place (MOOP) on and around our site. This includes public areas like the bar, lounge, and street frontage; and private areas like kitchen, common spaces and dwelling areas.
Leave No Trace
Before you leave the event to return home, we ask that that you check for MOOP in and around your camping area. We also do a collective MOOP check, as a group, of the entire site after we break down and pack infrastructure in the container.
At the end of the week, we distribute the camp’s collective garbage and recycling to all outbound vehicles, for disposal off playa. If you are driving, reserve space to take at least two construction size garbage bags with you.
Pack It In, Pack It Out
All camp members must take everything they brought to the playa with them when they leave. This includes your tent, your bike, your cooler, and any other personal use items. The MCC does not store or accept camp member’s personal items even as a donation or gift; as space is extremely tight in our storage container.
Pay equal share of all camp expenses, promptly.
Shared costs include consumable supplies (potable water, ice, bar inventory, propane for kitchen, gasoline for generator), infrastructure & services (that year’s repair and replacement of equipment & shared facilities, storage & transport for our shipping container). These are split equally between all campers that year. In 2024, Mission Country Club camp expenses are projected about $300 +/- per person; including any of the costs of shared supplies that are assigned to you to acquire and bring to camp. Final dues are usually calculated the week after the Burn.
How does MCC prioritize distribution of Steward / Directed Group Tickets?
First, to Existing Members in good standing that have honored the Camp Agreements listed above:
1. Member who camped with MCC within the last 5 years
2. Member who camped MCC 6 or more years ago
Then to Prospective Members who have completed the New Member Questionnaire:
3. New Member, has burned before; MCC Sponsor attending with them
4. New Member, is new to the Burn; MCC Sponsor attending with them
5. New Member, has burned before; MCC Sponsor not attending
6. New Member, is new to the burn; MCC Sponsor not attending
